A Suffering People
Teaching Pastor; Staff Governing Elder; Staff Director
The book of Exodus is a story of redemption and punishment, of salvation and judgment. Though the nation of Israel is enslaved and oppressed under a cruel worldly power, God blesses and rescues them and calls them to be his distinct people.
Application
In what ways do you attempt to manage your life rather than relying on God to provide for you? How can you deplete yourself for someone else to make space for God to bless you?
What is something you need to pull away from or move towards in order to be distinct as a follower of Jesus? If you’re unsure, ask the Holy Spirit to show you.
Key Points
Salvation and judgment go hand-in-hand. When salvation is offered, judgment accompanies it; when judgment is present, there is opportunity for salvation.
God is constantly extracting his people from bondage to bind them to himself.
For God’s people, even in times of suffering, we still experience his blessing.
The worldly powers of Babylon can’t stand up against God; when he decides to do something, he can’t be stopped.
Knowing God is our sovereign King and Creator produces in us a reverent fear that moves us to obedience to him and confidence in the face of worldly power.
God uses the troubles of this world to keep us in a place of dependence on him.
