The Red Sea
Downtown Campus Pastor
In one of the paramount salvation stories of the Old Testament, God leads the Israelites out of Egypt through yet another display of his power: the parting of the Red Sea. It is a reminder—to the Israelites and to us—that God is trustworthy and faithful to rescue his people, even when the way seems impossible.
Application
When have you seen God lead you on an unexpected “detour” that proved to be much better than your own plans?
How do you respond in fearful situations (panic, despair, anger, prayer)? What does your response reveal about your trust in God to help and deliver you?
In what ways are you imitating Moses’ and Miriam’s song of deliverance and celebrating God’s work in your life? How are you pointing the next generation to him?
Key Points
God’s constant presence and power is our peace.
Learning to “examine the evidence” of God’s faithfulness helps us to be steady and calm in the midst of our trials.
God takes the schemes of our enemies and uses them for his purposes. Evil and chaos cannot stop him; even they obey his will.
God is not primarily interested in taking us on the easiest path or removing all the obstacles in our way. He allows us to face difficulty to make his power known so that we live in awe of him.
